GPUMC offers numerous opportunities for you to serve within the church, whether you want to teach young children, bake cookies for Memorial Services, lend a hand in the office, or help with church finances. With only a few staff members, we rely on the enthusiasm and talent of numerous volunteers to keep the church functioning smoothly. How would you like to use your gifts?

Acolytes

Acolytes carry the candlelighter into the sanctuary on Sunday morning and light the altar candles. Before departing the sanctuary, they extinguish the candles and carry the candlelighter out of the sanctuary. Children may begin serving as an acolyte when they are in 5th grade and continue through middle school.

Altar flowers

We invite you to honor or remember someone with flowers placed on the altar during the Sunday worship service. Sign up to provide altar flowers on a Sunday of your choosing or for Christmas Eve or Easter Sunday morning.

Bell choir

Use your musical gifts by joining the Bell Choir, which rehearses at 6:30 pm on most Thursday nights. The bell choir performs about once a month during Sunday worship.

Call me for anything!

You have many gifts that you are willing to share as needed.

Cashiers

After the offering is collected, two volunteer cashiers work together to count the collection and prepare it for bank deposit.

Chancel choir

Use your musical gifts by joining the Chancel Choir, which rehearses at 7:45 pm on most  Thursday nights and sings most Sunday mornings. If you’re interested, you don’t need to sign up; just show up in the choir rehearsal room on the 2nd floor above the sanctuary on any Thursday night.

Bakers and servers (coffee hour, memorial services, special events)

GPUMC always has opportunities for anyone who wants to serve coffee/tea or provide cookies during Coffee Hour or any of our special events, such as memorial services.

Confirmation mentor

Each member of our confirmation classes is paired with an adult mentor to guide them through this important year of commitment.

Greeters

Greeting each person who arrives for Sunday morning worship is a crucial part of our welcoming ministry. Greeters must arrive 30 minutes before worship begins and remain after to bid farewell to worshipers. Sign up here for this ministry.

Liturgist

The liturgist plays an important role by sharing the word of God on Sunday morning. You may sign up here for that ministry.

Study group leader

Lead a small group book study or a deep dive into a topic of interest, either virtually or in person.

Substitute minister

Even ministers go on vacation! Are you someone who would be willing to deliver the message on a Sunday morning while the minister is away?

Sunday school teacher or youth group leader

Nurturing our children and youth in the Christian faith is among the most important work we do.

Ushers

The ushers are among the first people that anyone sees at church. They assist in helping visitors and members get to their seats and that they exit safely. They distribute collection plates during the offering and guide worshipers during communion. In case of an emergency, the ushers are the link to medical and police personnel and provide oversight to keep worshipers safe. Sign up here for that ministry.

Video team

This team ensures that we are able to livestream the Sunday worship service and other key services during the year. Training is available for interested persons.

Wedding coordinator

Assist the wedding couple in planning for their wedding and helping them before and after the wedding ceremony.
