The stained glass windows of Grosse Pointe United Methodist Church are distinctive. When you tell someone in Grosse Pointe where you attend church, they will frequently nod and say, “I know that church. It’s the one with the windows.”
The church actually has two sets of windows designed exclusively for special spaces — one set in the sanctuary and a second set in the chapel on the west end of the building. We are grateful for the artistry of these pieces, for their constant reminder to us about significant passages in the Bible, and to the donors who made it possible for all of us to share in these gifts.
A committee of laypersons led by Rev. Jack Giguere began working on the design of the sanctuary windows in spring 1998 as the church was preparing to build a new sanctuary. Rich Buswell, art director at Lynchburg Stained Glass Co. in Lynchburg, Va., designed each window. They were manufactured by Lynchburgh Stained Glass.
The stained glass windows were dedicated at the New Building Consecration on Sunday, October 15, 2000. They are a constant source of beauty and inspiration to those who worship at our church and a legacy to future generations.
